The Orchestrated Itinerary

01
The Transfăgărășan Pass — Poenari Castle, Vidraru Dam & Bâlea Lake
The journey begins with a private 07:00 a.m. hotel pick-up, heading towards the 13th-century cliffside Poenari Fortress—an architectural marvel wrapped in dramatic historical ties. We ascend its 1,480 legendary steps in an organized morning group to unlock mind-blowing, high-altitude panoramas. Moving further along national road 7C (DN7C), we halt at the monumental Vidraru Dam, a massive 155-meter-deep reservoir built in 1965 on the Argeș River for hydroelectric production, casting shadows over a submerged village below. We then carve our way through the Făgăraș mountains along the 90 km Transfăgărășan highway to reach Bâlea Lake, a stunning glacial reservation wrapped in eerie legends. The day concludes in Sibiu, the 2007 European Capital of Culture, featuring a curated dinner in the historic center followed by a moonlit evening walk across the Bridge of Lies, Council Tower, and Great Market.
Highlights 1480-Step Poenari Fortress Ascent, 155m-Deep Vidraru Dam, Bâlea Glacial Lake Ridge, Sibiu Medieval Center Night Walk
Logistics & Specs 90 km Track (DN7C) | 07:00 AM Departure | Over-Night Stay in Sibiu Old Town | Seasonal Access (June - October)
02
The Transalpina Highway — The King's Road, Urdele Pass & Cozia Monastery
Following a refined boutique breakfast, we conquer the highest paved road in Romania: the legendary Transalpina (DN67C). Stretching 146 km across the Parâng Mountains from Sebeș to Novaci, this high-altitude highway climbs to an astonishing 2,145 meters above sea level at the Urdele Pass. Famously nicknamed "The King's Road," its rich history traces back to Roman empire legions moving toward Sarmizegetusa, before being officially opened by King Carol II in 1938 and later rebuilt by military forces during WWII. We navigate through serpentine loops, dramatic sheer drops, and sharp twists to stop midway at an authentic, traditional sheepfold for optional organic meat and dairy tasting. Time permitting, our private chauffeured transfer concludes with a cultural visit to Cozia Monastery on the Olt River—erected by Mircea the Elder in 1388—before our final evening arrival back in Bucharest.
Highlights 2145m Urdele Pass Peak, Transalpina Serpentine Curves, Traditional High-Mountain Sheepfold Taste, 1388 Cozia Medieval Art Tour
Logistics & Specs 146 km Track (DN67C) | King's Road High Altitude Pavement | Traditional Organic Food Stops | Evening Bucharest Hotel Return
