TOUR OF THE CASTLES

Premium Guided Day Expedition

Tour of the Castles
medieval heritage & royal luxury

Duration 1 Day
Itinerary Style Historical Castles & Legends
Key Landmarks Peles Palace, Bran Castle & Brasov
Seasonality All Year Long Execution

Romania’s collection of castles and fortresses perhaps best illustrates the rich medieval heritage of the country. While castles built from the 14th to the 18th centuries are strong and austere fortresses built mainly for defense against invaders, those erected beginning in the late 1800s are imposing and luxurious. We invite you to a 1-day guided tour in which you will discover the charm of past times and the imposing beauty of the two most legendary landmarks in Europe.

The journey seamlessly highlights the elegant 19th-century Peles Castle, with its 160 rooms filled with priceless European art, and, of course, the world-famous Bran Castle, built in the mid-1300s and legendary home to Bram Stoker’s Count Dracula. Experience a tailored historical traversal through ancient provinces, bridging the gap between historical defense fortresses and opulent royal summer residences.

The Orchestrated Itinerary

I.
First part of the day – Bran Castle
Our tour starts with a private hotel pick-up in Bucharest, heading north toward the Prahova Valley. Be fascinated by the majestic landscapes of the Bucegi Mountains, where the River Prahova froths white beneath sheer vertical escarpments covered in fir, beech, and rowan trees. Arrive at Bran Castle, perched atop a 200-foot-high rock and enveloped in mystery. First documented in 1377, this national landmark stands on the Transylvania-Wallachia border. Commonly known as "Dracula's Castle," it features imposing towers and turrets, housing a brilliant museum today dedicated to art and furniture collected by Queen Marie, alongside a small rural open-air park at the base of the hill. Followed by a curated lunch.

Second part of the day – Peles Castle
Nestled at the foot of the mountains in picturesque Sinaia, Peles Castle is a masterpiece of German New-Renaissance architecture. Commissioned by King Carol I in 1873, it served as the royal summer residence. Its 160 lavish rooms host an incredible Central European art collection of over 4,000 armor pieces, Murano chandeliers, Swiss hand-painted stained glass, and Cordoba leather. Explore the seven Italian Neo-Renaissance terrace gardens decorated with Carrara marble statues by Raffaello Romanelli, fountains, and guarding lions, showcasing a romantically inspired blend of Neo-Renaissance and Alpine Gothic Revival elements.

Located 160 km from Bucharest, Brasov is surrounded like a halo by the Carpathian Mountains, standing at the historical crossroads of Transylvania, Wallachia, and Moldavia. Following a short, guided walk through the old historical city center—stretching across the beautiful Barsa depression—we conclude the expedition with an authentic culinary experience in a top Romanian restaurant, enjoying traditional local cuisine.
